 The History of Our Shire

Roswell first became an Incipient Group around April 1990 during the reign of Artan III and Aziza.

There were approximately ten people; we were first known as Midvale then Glenn Medon (Middle Valley). Then it was known as Glenn Medon na Miadan. It passed through the College of Heralds becoming Gleann Medonach in 1991. The name is based on the Gaelic for “middle valley.” Originally, it included only the Roswell, NM area. Since our formation in 1990, we now include Carlsbad (formerly Caer Mithin Halle), Hobbs and Lovington (formerly Kahlland) and Artesia (formerly the Valley of Light).

Some of the first officers for the group in 1990 were:
Seneschal – Borgil Turangren
Exchequer – Coamh Benjamin Crubach

The first event hosted by Gleann Medonach was August 1990 – Pennsic Pity Party (August 1990) Sir Berold won the tournament and became the first Paragon of Pity. February 1991 was the first Imbolic with the first feast; Mistress Monika von Zell was Queen at the time.
